Donate now to give children with special needs in Ghana a chance and change their lives for the better.

Helping Paul is a charitable project that aims to raise awareness and money towards the care of children with special needs in Ghana.

In Ghana, children with special needs are thought of as abnormal and many parents abandon their children due to a lack of understanding of their condition.

The small minority of parents who do decide to look after their children with special needs tend to be excluded from society.

This project wants to improve the care of such children and provide them with opportunities in life that they may not otherwise get.

I met Aggie in 2014, she was the most beautiful young girl, with the loveliest smile and cutest of giggles.

She had various health conditions which prevented her from being the happy little girl she wished she could be. But my main concern was how little she was, she had no energy and looked so poorly. In Ghana, a child like Aggie is not valued as an individual and therefore often will not receive the medical attention needed. After much persuasion I managed to take Aggie to hospital, in her initial observation she was weighed at 5kg (11.7 pounds) at 3 years old. It broke my heart, seeing this precious little girl being neglected and was so delighted to be able to get her the medical attention that she needed.

She had a gastrostomy tube inserted so that she could be fed through her stomach and increase her weight, it was only a start, but once she had gained weight she would be able to have medical attention for her heart disease and cataracts.

I returned home from Ghana, knowing that Aggie was being fed, I had people check up on her. She was happy back in the children’s home, she had a bed to herself and we were seeing her amazing smile more and more!

I received a phone call in October and was told that Afia Agnes had got malaria and passed away in her sleep. I was heartbroken once again. This beautiful girl taken well before her time. It gave me comfort to think of the small difference I made in Aggie’s life, she passed away no longer starving, she had a bed and was warm and happy and had been given love.

I still think about Aggie every day. She touched my life and has inspired me to keep doing the work that I do in Ghana.
